The Thread That Runs Through Me: Emerging visual artist Zana Wensel’s textile show subtitled Cellular Memory & The Mindbody Connection uses tumultuous graphite drawings and hand-sewn text to explore the lines between trauma and healing. This show also includes a nine-meter “intestinal knot” — “Careful, it’s heavier than it looks,” the artist warns — and gallery visitors are invited to take home a red thread as a sort of philosophical keepsake and reminder of connection between artist and audience, even when it’s unspoken. Wensel’s work has previously shown in a group in Nina Haggerty’s window at Edmonton City Centre, and it’s nice to see this solo effort from her. Read More
