Tawatinâ Bridge: The last day of the year is the perfect time to visit Edmonton’s great new outdoor art gallery, hanging on the box concrete underside of Tawatinâ — which means valley in Cree. With more than 500 individual pieces by David Garneau and numerous other artists he invited to the project, this beautiful fusion of art and culture will have you amazed and smiling at all its symbols and animals in motion, arrowheads, the Yellowhead head, a heart-shaped strawberry and, my personal favourite, reproductions of the love notes carved into the previous bridge on the same spot. It’s a serious reason to be proud to live here, and an extremely happy ending to the long wait for this to be a proper pathway (which let’s not forget also created Accidental Beach) across the river again.
