Three to See: McLeod bedazzled, Love Object and Souvenir II

Christmas at the McLeod: Every year, McLeod Building’s resident gardener pulls out all the stops and creates a complete explosion of festive colour and light. Born in 1944, Bruce Wolner usually starts putting up his trees in late November, happily accepting help from the building’s tenants to get his garlands and streamers way up high, and once it’s all done the overall effect is easily as good as the city’s official decorations a couple blocks to the north on Churchill Square. This year he’s even incorporated ties, which sounds crazy, but it’s reliably suburb. “I do it as a gift to the tenants in the building,” Wolner told me in an interview a while back, but the bedazzled lobby always attracts curious viewers walking by, and it’s well worth a trip downtown to see this display that outdoes the tinsel at any mall.
